  1. Its recommended to allow a 15 day extension if past the 15 days time-frame.

    Also its recommended to put in the employee handbook about the 15 day period to complete FMLA, and more time may be allowed under case by case basis such as hospitalization or incapacitation of employee or if the employee is providing updates to employer on good faith basis by providing reasoning of the delay and alternative documentation until certification can be completed. Because in today’s healthcare system sadly it may not be the employee’s fault, and employee may have been referred to doctor and can’t get an appointment until a month out (it happens).
