  1. “We’d all like to believe that the companies we work for are on the up-and-up.” I want to correct that sentence. “We all HOPE that the company about to hire us is on the up-and-up.”

    And when we learn – some of us quickly, some of us not so quickly – after being hired that it isn’t on the up-and-up, then “We all like to believe that the company that hired us and isn’t on the up-and-up will somehow become up-and-up.”

    Eventually the savvy believe that the only way the company that isn’t on the up-and-up could become “up-and-up” is if we fight to make it become an up-and-up.
