Google Cloud Hires McInnis-Day as New VP of HR

Bringing over 20 years’ experience, McInnis-Day previously worked as chief operations officer and head of the digital HR strategy and transformation teams at SAP Successfactors, one of the world’s largest cloud-based human capital management providers.

As COO, she defined and implemented business strategies that were needed to achieve sustainable growth and customer satisfaction across SAP Successfactors’ largest cloud organization. She was committed to establishing the right goals, culture and vision, and bringing them to life to effectively support 6,500-plus global customers.

While managing board level HR and digital transformation strategies, McInnis-Day also led global organizational change and redesign and consulted senior level executives. According to a press release from Google, she enjoys amplifying employee experiences, revamping compensation elements and stimulating people development. She is also passionate about working to build cultures that promote women and early talents in leadership, diversity and inclusion, pay equality and digital transformation, the release stated.

Aside from the workplace, McInnis-Day is also an author, speaker and contributor for several publications, including the World Economic Forum Agenda, Fortune, Forbes, HRExecutive and other innovation forums. She enjoys spending her free time with her family, and describes herself as a travel and fitness enthusiast, the press release stated.

Google Cloud is a suite of public cloud computing services offered by the search engine giant. It includes a variety of hosted services for compute, storage and application development that run on Google hardware. Google Cloud can be accessed by software developers, cloud administrators and other business IT professionals.

As stated on its website, “Google Cloud is widely recognized as a global leader in delivering secure, open, intelligent, and transformative enterprise cloud platform.”

Taking on her new position at Google Cloud, McInnis-Day will continue to lead large-scale, global teams and help individuals succeed through innovation by overseeing HR with a focus on acquiring and developing talent and shaping the culture to drive business growth and transformation.

The release noted that she is looking forward to playing an active role among the growing Google Cloud talent pool.

Job Review Site Glassdoor Names New CEO

Employer review and jobs site Glassdoor named Christian Sutherland-Wong as its new chief executive officer on Monday, Aug. 26. Current Glassdoor CEO and co-founder Robert Hohman will step down but remain with the company as chairman. Both appointments will be effective on Jan. 6, 2020.

Sutherland-Wong was named Glassdoor president in early 2019 and appointed as the company’s COO in February 2018, overseeing day-to-day operations, strategy and business for Glassdoor. He joined the company in 2015 as vice president and general manager of monetization. Prior to Glassdoor, Sutherland-Wong was LinkedIn’s director of product, managing its premium subscription business, payment platform and API program. He also worked at Bain & Company.

“I am honored and thrilled to lead Glassdoor into our next chapter as we remain focused on achieving our mission of helping people everywhere find a job and company they love,” Sutherland-Wong said in a press release announcing his promotion. “My vision is to build on Glassdoor’s excellence, as a business and as an employer, that Robert has established over the past 12 years.”

Hohman co-founded Glassdoor in 2007 and launched it online in 2008. Employees and job candidates use the site to anonymously post reviews of employers, rate their CEO, share salary information and disclose interview questions. As of 2018, the company reported 59 million unique users per month and 7,000 corporate customers that pay to post job openings and use the company’s employer branding products.

In 2018, Glassdoor was purchased by Japan-based Recruit Holdings for $1.2 billion. Recruit Holdings is also the owner of jobs aggregator Indeed, which it acquired in 2012, as well as job search engine Simply Hired, bought in 2016.

SHRM Names New Internal Head of HR

The Society for Human Resource Management has named Sean Sullivan as its new chief human resource officer.

Sullivan, who will begin his new job in February 2019, takes over HR operations for the Alexandria, Va.-based organization, the world’s largest association of HR professionals with nearly 300,000 members.

“I am pleased to welcome Sean, a longtime SHRM member, to our executive team,” said SHRM President and Chief Executive Officer Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., in a press release announcing the appointment. “His background is exactly the right fit for SHRM as we continue to elevate our profession and represent the positive change we want to see in the workplace.”

Taylor himself is a relatively new leader for the organization, having taken over in early 2018 from Hank Jackson.

Most recently, Sullivan was vice president of human resources at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he was responsible for human capital practices and labor relations for the 5,500-employee academic medical center. Previously, he was vice president of human resources at Science Applications International Corporation, a $4 billion publicly traded technology company with 15,000 employees worldwide. Sullivan holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in political science and American studies from Syracuse University.
